Our Produce

At Wishwell Farms, we take pride in growing a diverse selection of high-quality fruits and vegetables and offering them at multiple convenient locations. We grow a diverse mix of crops each season and partner with other local farms to offer additional seasonal items. We also bring in select Southern-grown produce, including peaches and Vidalia onions.

We use proven growing methods to produce consistent, high-quality crops. Many of our vegetables are grown on raised beds with bio-degradable mulch and drip irrigation to promote earlier harvests, conserve moisture, and control weeds. We also use no-till practices with cover crops across many of our acres to reduce soil disturbance while improving soil structure, fertility, and long-term productivity.

Our customers know they can count on us for a diverse selection, top-quality produce, and freshness at every market. Just as important, we take pride in having a reliable, friendly team that works hard to deliver a great experience every time.

Greenhouse Tomatoes

We began growing greenhouse tomatoes in 2001 to meet the strong demand for local, vine- ripened tomatoes early in the season. Rather than relying on southern-grown tomatoes, we made the decision to grow our own—and have since expanded to four greenhouses to keep up with demand.

Today, our greenhouse production allows us to offer high-quality tomatoes for about six months each year, beginning in early May.

Growing tomatoes indoors is labor-intensive, but it allows us to consistently deliver exceptional quality. Each season, we’re proud to be the first at the farmers’ markets with local tomatoes. We also grow field tomatoes during the summer, but once frost arrives, our tomato season comes to an end.

Each year, the process starts again after the first of the year, when new seedlings are planted in preparation for the next season’s early harvest.

Field-Grown Tomatoes

As the season progresses, our field-grown tomatoes begin ripening in early August and are hand harvested throughout the peak of summer. Grown outdoors under natural conditions, they deliver the classic, vine-ripened flavor customers look forward to each year.

The season runs from early August until the first frost in October, when outdoor production comes to a close—bringing the tomato season to an end.

Sweet Corn

Sweet corn has been our specialty from the very beginning. What started in the mid-1990s as extra corn from the family garden sold out of a garage quickly grew into a larger operation—eventually helping fund Jason Wish’s college education. Today, we plant nearly 30 acres each year to keep up with demand.

Sweet corn varieties have improved dramatically over time, and we work hard to stay current with the best options available. By using university trial data alongside our own on-farm testing, we focus on delivering the best combination of sweetness, texture, and overall flavor.

We harvest our corn fresh each morning and move it directly into cold storage to preserve its quality throughout the day. Through multiple plantings from April through July, along with carefully selected maturities, we’re able to provide a consistent supply of fresh sweet corn every week throughout the summer until frost.

Melons

Over the years, we’ve found that the soils at Wishwell Farms are especially well-suited for growing large, sweet melons. Our customers look forward to our homegrown cantaloupes and seedless watermelons each year as they begin coming out of the fields in early August.

Before our own melons are ready, we bring in some of Indiana’s finest to offer early in the season. But once our homegrown melons arrive, they’re what keep customers coming back week after week through the end of September.
